Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall swept through parts of Sulaimani province on Tuesday, leaving at least three people dead, four injured, and several children reportedly missing, officials confirmed.
Sarkawt Karash, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region’s Civil Defense Directorate, said two of the victims were residents of Chamchamal district. They were identified as 72-year-old Omar Saeed Amin and 22-year-old Basharat Sharif.
In neighboring Kirkuk province, flooding also claimed the life of a young girl, identified as Bayar Eisa.
Local residents in Chamchamal reported that two children — 11-year-old Karzan Abdulla and 9-year-old Chra Mohammed — have gone missing amid the floods. Search and rescue teams have launched operations to locate them, while authorities continue to assess the extent of damage and casualties.
Rudaw footage from Chamchamal and Piramagrun showed streets and residential areas heavily inundated, with floodwaters sweeping through towns and disrupting traffic.
The Sulaimani Traffic Directorate temporarily closed the western Sulaimani–Tasluja road along with several other routes due to unsafe conditions caused by the stormwater runoff.
