The Hawar Theater Group from Kirkuk has taken its acclaimed monodrama “Salma” to the Amman International Theater Festival, bringing the story of the Halabja chemical attack, the Kurdish genocide, the Anfal campaign, and the forced displacement of Kurdish communities to an international audience.

A Chinese linguist has been studying Kurdish in Erbil for the past two months as part of her preparation to teach the language to students in China. Xueqing Zhang, a lecturer at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), is currently improving her Kurdish language skills at Salahaddin University in Erbil. Zhang has adopted the Kurdish name Shirin, meaning “sweet,” during her studies.
